We invite applications for the position ofSr. Packaging Engineer,located at our Corporate office in Topeka, Kansas. The Sr. Packaging Engineer will support company strategies of Driving Growth, by developing and implementing innovative consumer preferred packaging. The role is cross-functional in nature, working closely with Marketing, Product Development, Manufacturing, and the Pet Care Supply Chain. Partnerships with outside packaging vendors are a critical element of job responsibilties.

More specifically, this position will:

Lead the conceptualization, initiation, development and implementation of new and improved packages and processesincluding: design generation, prototype development, engineering specifications, mold and machinery qualification, functionality and quality testing, and technology transfer.

Leads the design of packaging systems and packaging components, ensuring defined needs for ergonomics, equity aesthetics, consumer acceptance, manufacturing capability and quality are met from the program brief through design, engineering and commercialization
*
Establish global specifications for packages, processes, and /or equipment
*
Understand, interpret and refine package testing procedures and standards
*
Develop, justify and execute capital projects related to packaging (i.e., molds / machinery)
*
Implement standardization and simplification programs, and margin improvement projects
*
Generate valid Total Delivered Cost information on package / process
Basic Qualifications:

B.S. Degree in Packaging, Engineering or Material Science
8 years experience in the development of new packaging or new packaging materials

Preferred Qualifications:
M.S. Degree in Packaging, Engineering or Material Science
2 or more years experience in Plastic Package Development for Retort processes
2 or more years experience working in an innovation role either in Research & Development or an applications engineering role, within the Pet or Human food industry.


Expected Areas of Skills:


- Excellent interpersonal and team skills
- Working knowledge of packaging test methods, specification writing and quality theory
- Previous experience in a multi-national company
