    About the US Foods Summer Intern Program

    The US Foods Summer Internship Program provides a forum for students to apply classroom skills and academic training in a real world business environment. In addition to being assigned business-impacting projects throughout the summer, students will be matched with a manager who will meet with them on a regular basis to provide direction on assignments as well as deliver performance feedback and a mentor who will be available to offer day-to-day guidance and support.

    Interns will also get exposure to US Foods executive leadership; have an opportunity to participate in learning and social events with other interns across business functions within our Corporate HQ; and have an opportunity to deliver an end of summer presentation to showcase their accomplishments with key business leaders. Dependent upon critical business needs and overall performance during the summer, there may be opportunities for students to continue working as a part-time intern during the school year.

    Please note: We are not able to provide internships to students that require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B visa status).

    Local candidates are encouraged to apply. For qualified students whose permanent home of record is located outside 50 miles from US Foods Corporate HQ, a stipend will be offered to partially offset housing costs for the summer.

    Hours: Full time (40 hours per week) during the summer (10-12 weeks); possible future part-time opportunities (16-24 hours per week) during the school year, dependent upon current critical business needs and overall performance.

    The Category Management Internship Program aims to provide interns with hands on experience managing all aspects of a category, including assortment, pricing, promotions, and new product introductions. They will work closely with their Category Manager to develop and execute strategies aimed at growing their category and meeting company goals.

    The ideal candidate with direct supervision and oversight, the intern position provides exposure and opportunity to investigate a career, gain business knowledge and practical application of a specific function within the food distribution industry.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Conduct detailed analysis for assigned category to identify actionable opportunities in the areas of pricing, product assortment, promotions, and new product introductions

    • Maintain regular reports to track category performance against established targets and identify impact of variables on category performance. Find opportunities and provide recommendations aimed at increasing category performance

    • Conduct product assortment review to identify trends and voids, recommend changes to the Category Manager. Quantify the growth opportunity or other benefits of proposed changes

    • Assist Category Manager in the project management of strategic growth initiatives such an new product innovation, product commercialization, and other promotional opportunities

    • Provide support to cross-functional initiatives through collaboration with other areas of the business such as Product Development, FSQA, Legal, Packaging, and Sales

    Basic Requirements:

    • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree in the fields of Business Administration, Marketing, Finance, Economics, or related field

    • Must be enrolled in school during time of internship

    • Minimum 3 years college experience required. Typically, students currently between their Junior and Senior years or between their 1st and 2nd years of graduate school will be considered for internships

    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

    Additional Requirements:

    • Must have regular, reliable method of transportation to commute to US Foods' location

    Preferred Skills:

    • Previous experience in foodservice or retail environment preferred

    • The successful candidate will have solid quantitative and analytical skills and the ability to work in a team setting
